Sunday Snippet

Another eight sentences from my work in progress 'Irish Inheritance' for the Weekend Writing Warriors and Snippet Sunday.

Guy and Jenna have met at Dublin airport and are sharing a cab, but neither yet knows the other is the co-inheritor of a legacy and a house in Ireland.

This is in Guy’s POV.

Jenna laughed and splayed her fingers to push her long dark hair back from her face. For some reason, the movement was incredibly sexy, and he experienced a momentary urge to run his fingers through her hair, exactly as she’d done. He had a vision of her wavy hair spread on a pillow…

Cool it, Guy. You’ve only just met this girl - and she’s an actress.

He glanced through the cab window to divert his mind from the still painful memory of the way Suzie had dumped him when she went to L.A. “So do you have any recommendations about what I should see while I’m here in Dublin? I’m hoping to have a couple of free days after I’ve sorted out some legal matters.”

Many thanks to everyone who visits each Sunday, and for your encouraging comments.

Here's my first (very rough!) draft of the 'blurb' for 'Irish Inheritance' for those of you who want to know more about this story:
English actress Jenna Sutton and American artist Guy Sinclair first meet when they jointly inherit a house on the west coast of Ireland. Curious about their unknown benefactress and why they are both considered as 'family', they gradually work out their links to the original owners of the house. At the same time as they are uncovering a nineteenth century love story, they struggle against their mutual attraction to each other. The two lovers in the past were destined not to have a happy ending, and it seems the same thing will happen to their two descendants - or will it?

Sunday Snippet

Another eight sentences from my work in progress 'Irish Inheritance' for the Weekend Writing Warriors and Snippet Sunday.

The lawyer has told Jenna she is about to inherit a large sum of money and a half-share of a house in Ireland from an unknown benefactress. Now she has some questions - and some concerns.

“Have you any idea why this Irish lawyer wants me to meet him?”

“As the executor of the will, he has accessed the house, and wants you to see it before you make any decision about its sale.”

Jenna narrowed her eyes. “Why?” Visions of a dilapidated house flashed through her mind. Had the roof fallen in? Was it riddled with wet or dry rot, or overrun by rats? Maybe it would need that fifty thousand spent on it before it was fit to sell.

Many thanks to everyone who visits each Sunday, and for your encouraging comments. Next week you'll find out who is going share the inheritance with Jenna!

Weekend Writing Warriors

Another eight sentences from ‘Irish Inheritance’, my current work in progress. Having been told she is about to inherit a large sum of money and a share of a house in Ireland, Jenna is then informed she needs to go to Dublin to meet with someone from the Irish law firm dealing with the estate. Her lawyer says he will contact her employer and request leave of absence for her. Here is Jenna's response:

“Actually, Mr. Haslam, I don’t have an employer, at least not at the moment. I’m an actress and I’m—er—between jobs at the moment.”

“I see.” The lawyer cleared his throat, and Jenna had the impression she might as well have said she was a nightclub stripper. “Well, of course, that simplifies things.”

Not really, she thought, twisting her lips wryly, but maybe Charley would lend her the money for a quick trip to Dublin. No, hold on. If she was due to inherit twenty-five thousand pounds plus half a house, perhaps she could get some kind of advance.

Many thanks for visiting each week, and for your comments. I’m delighted you like the beginning of this story!

Weekend Writing Warriors

Here are eight more sentences from my contemporary romance 'Dream of Paris' (now released!)

Thanks to everyone from Weekend WritingWarriors (#WeWriWa) and/or the Six Sentence group on Facebook who have visited and left comments for me.

In last week's excerpt, Matt gave Anna a very passionate kiss, but then broke away. They leave the banks of the Seine, and he takes her to a small cafe on the Left Bank.

“Paris has gone to our heads, hasn’t it?” he said with a small smile.

She lowered her eyes and stroked her fingers up and down the stem of her glass. “Is that all it was?” Slowly she returned to reality, even though she tried to cling to the dream.

Her heart jerked when he put his hand very gently around hers. “Do you want it to be any more?”

She raised her head again until her eyes met his. “Do you?”

Dream of Paris can be downloaded for Kindle at Amazon USA, Amazon Canada and Amazon UK
Also available in various formats from Smashwords for Nook, iPad, Sony, Kobo, etc
Print version will also be available very soon!

Blurb:
Anna Richards has a dream of going to live and study in Paris, but when Matthew Carlton comes into her life, her dream changes direction.
Attraction sparks between them, but Matt’s behaviour is strangely inconsistent. Anna is shocked when she discovers the reason and is sure there is no future for them.
Can Paris work its magic and make her dream come true?
