Six Sentence Sunday

Six more from my contemporary romance 'Fragrance of Violets'.

Abbey has joined Jack in Paris, but he thinks she's still uncertain about their relationship. While she's in the bathroom getting changed, he tells himself he'll have to take thing slowly - until Abbey appears in a more-than-sex red baby-doll outfit.

“You like?” she asked teasingly.

“Like is an understatement.”

He stood up, started towards her, then stopped, letting his gaze travel the whole length of her. “Jeez, Abbey, I don’t know what to say – “

“Then don’t say anything. Just kiss me and take me to bed.”

Six Sentence Sunday

I was going to have a break from Six Sentence Sunday for the duration of the April A-Z Challenge. However, after a concentrated week of blogging, I decided I'd probably get withdrawal symptoms if I didn't blog on Sunday (the day of rest for the A-Z bloggers).

So here's another six from my recent release Fragrance of Violets. Abbey has joined Jack for a weekend in Paris but he knows she's still uncertain about their relationship. While she's in the bedroom getting changed, he convinces himself he'll have to take things slowly with her. But he's in for a surprise.

“So how do I look?”

Her voice broke into his thoughts and he looked round, then did a double-take at her. 

She stood in the doorway, her hand reaching up the doorframe as she stood in the most provocative, seductive pose that exceeded even his wildest fantasy.

She’d let her hair loose so that it cascaded past her shoulders in a delightfully unruly mass. Her red chiffon jacket only partly covered her beautiful breasts and, fastened with just one clasp underneath them, offered a tantalising glimpse of the g-string below.

“Wow!” was all he could say.

Happy Monday

This morning, when I switched on my computer, I had an email about a new review for 'Fragrance of Violets' on 'The Books Debut' and on Amazon. To say I was thrilled is an understatement.
The reviewer wrote, amongst other things, that "it's going to be a book you'll remember long after the last page has been turned." For me, that was probably the best praise I'll ever read about one of my books. I shall treasure it. She gave it 5 stars and said it was a book she would be reading 'over and over again'.
Words like that make you realise that the 'blood, toil, tears and sweat' you poured into writing the story were all worthwhile.
I write - firstly, because I enjoy writing (hmm, sometimes I wonder why on earth I do it when my brain hurts trying to sort out a scene or work out just what my hero/heroine are actually thinking and feeling) - and secondly, because I want people to enjoy my stories. I don't want awards, best-seller status, six-figure advances - okay, maybe that would be good, but it's not why I write. If people enjoy my stories, that's enough reward for me.
So that review left me on a high.
I went out for the afternoon with some acquaintances who don't even know I write romance novels, and got home to discover another 5 star review on Amazon! Two in one day! It doesn't get much better than that, does it?
"Completely atmospheric and chock-full of interesting characters." - even a comparison with Nora Roberts! And "a thoroughly romantic and enjoyable read."
It's definitely been a very happy Monday!

Here are this week's six sentences from near the end of Chapter 1, when Abbey meets Jack for the first time since his return to her home village in the English Lake District. She's shocked when he tells her he intends to stay.

“Why shouldn’t I stay?”

As he took a few steps towards her car, the light spilling from the shop doorway illuminated his face, and her glance took in his handsome features – the blue eyes, the high cheekbones, the well-defined square jaw, the perfectly shaped mouth and the cleft above his chin.

A quiver rippled through her but she ignored it. “Because people here haven’t forgotten, and many won’t forgive you.”

“What about you?” His eyes challenged her, forcing her to remember the night everything had gone wrong between them.

Here are this week's six sentences from near the end of Chapter 1, when Abbey meets Jack for the first time since his return to her home village in the English Lake District and has just asked him, somewhat brusquely, why he has returned:


“Welcome to Rusthwaite,” he said with amused irony.
 
“You aren’t welcome here,” Abbey retorted. “Not by me, not by anyone.”
 
“Maybe not, but I’m back, and I intend to stay.”
 
Shock ran through her like a cold shower. “You’re staying?”

Here are this week's six sentences from near the end of Chapter 1, when Abbey meets Jack for the first time since his return to her home village in the English Lake District:

Abbey swung her car into the car park and pulled up beside the shop. After she’d unlocked the side door and switched on the light, she returned to the car and opened the boot. She’d just lifted out the first box when a voice startled her.

“Want some help with that?”

It was dark but she didn’t need to see him to recognize his familiar voice.

“No, thanks, I can manage,” she said curtly, even though her hands had started to shake.

Abbey has to forgive not only Jack, but also her father who deserted his family when she was young. Jack holds himself responsible for his fiancée’s death. He’s also hiding another secret which threatens the fragile resumption of his relationship with Abbey.

Will Abbey ever forgive him when she finds out the truth?
